Correlation Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2023

High on Napa's western ridge, Spring Mountain District has long been the source of Cabernet's mystique — cooler temperatures, rocky soils, forest-lined vineyards, and a growing season that stretches just long enough to build depth without sacrificing lift. Mountain fruit like this rarely comes cheaply, which is precisely what makes this release so compelling.

Vineyard 7 & 8 stands among the icons of this storied slope. In 1999, the Steffens family acquired a 40-acre estate that included vineyard blocks originally planted by Ric Forman and? David Abreu?— a pedigree that speaks for itself. Today, the wines are brought to life by one of Napa's most revered talents, Martha McClellan.

Collectors know Martha's hand through estates such as Checkerboard, Sloan, and Toymaker. Her signature is unmistakable: long, silken, architectural tannins that feel like velvet drawn slowly across the palate. Her wines taste expensive. Most of them are. This one is $65

Correlation is Vineyard 7 & 8's second label — a deliberate effort to open the door to their pedigree without the cult-level tariff. The Steffens family has owned their mountainside property long enough to remember when Napa Cabernet was both profound and attainable. Wesley has made it his mission to return to that ethos: serious wine, honestly priced.

The first swirl releases a rush of blackberries and cassis, layered with violet, crushed sage, and graphite. With air, espresso and dark olive emerge, adding depth and intrigue. Rich yet remarkably composed, the palate balances power with freshness. Fine, mountain-born tannins glide seamlessly across the tongue, while a savory thread of earth and pencil lead anchors the wine firmly to its hillside roots — a level of detail and structure that feels astonishing at $65.

In today's Napa Valley — where serious Cabernet from pedigreed vineyards and elite winemaking talent so often starts at $125 and climbs quickly from there — finding this level of quality at this price feels like a small victory that we are more than happy to share!
