Andy Smith’s driving focus since joining the family-owned winery in 1999 is crafting DuMOL wines as honestly and precisely as possible. As a key operating partner in the winery, he is the voice of their portfolio. Andy employs a fully integrated, holistic approach to winegrowing and winemaking which, for him, is a seamless continuum. He leads a winemaking team of four and directs the farming of DuMOL’s diverse spectrum of vineyards – many of which he’s worked with for over 20 years. Each of their bottlings are built in the vineyard. Soil types, microclimates, plant material, maturity levels, how the vines react to the growing conditions, how Andy and his team react to the vines – make DuMOL what is it today. Founded in 1996, DuMOL is a vineyard-focused producer of cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from distinctive vineyards in the extreme southwestern part of the Russian River Valley. Under Andy’s guidance, they also grow and craft small-lot Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Viognier from exceptional vineyard sites in Sonoma and Napa, expanding upon twenty-five years of winegrowing experience. Purity, vibrancy and freshness are what we expect from these exceptional wines, and with each new release, our excitement builds and our expectations are always exceeded!

The Jentoft Vineyard was planted in 2007 by DuMOL using their own historic vine selections of Hyde Wente, Calera, and Swan clones. It is a high elevation vineyard in between the lower Green Valley and the Sonoma Coast with lots of coastal influence. The soil depth is a very shallow marine-base soil, with the sandstone bedrock being very close to the surface. The vines are very deep rooted, having drilled through the highly erodable sandstone. The resulting wines are very fresh and bright, but with extremely intense dark fruit complexities.

Aromas and flavors akin to cranberry and rhubarb quickly segue into tiny dark wild berries, kirsch liqueur, violet, anise, and sweet mint. The fruit is succulent, broad, and enveloping. The wine's structure is supple and mellow and carries the wine to a rising finish of sweet truffle and black tea.
