Promise Extra Brut Grand Cru Le Mesnil Sur Oger NV

For over a decade, Promise Estate proprietors Steve and Jen McPherson imagined creating a Champagne worthy of standing alongside their Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. But if they were going to do it, it had to be true Champagne—born of France’s chalky soils and crafted with the same precision and soul that define every Promise wine.

The opportunity came through old-world friendships and new-world vision. Connections cultivated in France through Steve’s ties to the Chevaliers de Tastevin and the Commander de Bordeaux, and later strengthened during the family’s year in Paris, led to the establishment of the Paris Wine Company and its founder, Joshua Adler. From many possibilities, one stood out immediately: Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, the legendary Grand Cru village, home to some of the world’s most iconic Blanc de Blancs. For Steve and Jen, whose benchmark had always been the Krug Clos du Mesnil, it was precisely what they had envisioned.

And then came Stéphane Renault. The first in his family to vinify Champagne under his own name, Stéphane brought both heritage and vision. With vines in Oger and Le Mesnil, many of which are between 40 and 60 years old, his farming is rooted in biodynamic and regenerative practices. From the beginning, the partnership felt inevitable—their philosophies aligned seamlessly, their goal singular: to create Champagne of purity, precision, and profound depth.

Each parcel is vinified with care. Two-thirds of the crop is fermented in stainless steel, and one-third is fermented in seasoned barrels, allowing malolactic fermentation to unfold naturally. After a minimum of four years resting on its lees, the wine is finished as Extra Brut, with just 2 grams of dosage, emphasizing elegance and tension over richness. Steve and Jen produce just 100 cases per year, and it has only ever been available to Promise club members until today! Like their Cabernet Sauvignon, this Champagne is more than a wine; it is a statement of vision, patience, and above all, promises kept.
