Nid Tissé Cécile Pomerol 2022

  • Vintage2022

The story of Nid Tissé has always been about connections — family, place, and the weaving together of traditions from France and America. But the 2022 Pomerol, Cécile, carries a thread unlike any other. This wine is a deeply personal tribute from winemaker Marie-Laure Ammons to her twin sister, Marie-Cécile, who passed away in 2022.

Born in France's Limousin region, Marie-Laure and Marie-Cécile came into the world so tiny that their mother didn't even know she was expecting twins. Yet from those delicate beginnings, the sisters grew into strong, determined young women. Encouraged by their mother to pursue sports, they became celebrated scholar-athletes, excelling in the 400-meter relay — a race built on trust, rhythm, and shared effort.

Their mutual love for the outdoors led them both to the Université de Bordeaux to study viticulture and winemaking. After graduation, their paths branched but always ran parallel: Marie-Laure set out across the globe, working harvests from Burgundy to Sonoma and eventually joining Atelier Melka where she honed her skills for nearly two decades, helping craft some of Napa's most sought-after wines. Marie-Cécile found her calling at Rémy Martin, where she immersed herself in the art of cognac.

Marie-Laure's journey ultimately brought her to Calistoga, where she and her husband, winemaker Frederick Ammons, have raised their family. From this blending of heritage and home, they founded Nid Tissé, which translates to "woven nest" — a name that perfectly embodies their family's tapestry of French roots and American soil.

Crafted from the clay- and gravel-rich soils of Pomerol, the smallest but one of the most celebrated appellations of Bordeaux, Cécile reflects the elegance, strength, and quiet depth that defined its namesake. Pomerol itself is a region known for intimacy rather than grandeur. With no stately châteaux but instead a patchwork of small vineyards, it has earned global reverence through quiet excellence. Wines from Pomerol are among the most soulful in Bordeaux, celebrated for their suppleness, depth, and ability to age gracefully.

The 2022 is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon — a classic Pomerol composition that captures both plushness and structure. The Merlot brings silken texture, dark cherry, and plum, while the Cabernet Sauvignon lends backbone, spice, and longevity. The result is a wine of balance and grace, yet with a pulse of energy at its core — much like the runner who we raise our glass to in remembrance.
