If you are a Sonoma enthusiast, you have likely followed Jesse Katz's success at Aperture over the last decade and a half. If your interests lie to the east of the Mayacama Range, then you may have only begun to learn of his name in the last few years with his highly anticipated release of Sign of the Dove which we featured in our Apex club last year.? They say good things come in threes, and Jesse's hat trick of success has been solidified with the sensational debut of PROPHET & POET, a collaborative effort with Jessica and Justin Biel who are childhood friends of Jesse and longtime wine enthusiasts. In our 22 years of business, we can say with confidence that brands this special come around once in a blue moon. Every aspect of the brand is a homerun - the vineyards, the wines, the story, the cutting edge packaging - not a detail was overlooked and it's evident in the first sip!
Jesse is bullish on raising the profile for Sonoma when it comes to collectible and cellar-worthy wines. He knew that gaining access to premium vineyards would be paramount in the success of Prophet & Poet. Enter the Jackson Family. Chris and Ariel Jackson saw incredible potential in the lifelong friendship that Jesse and the Biel's had, and their investment in the brand blew open the door to world-class fruit.
This inaugural 2021 vintage includes five wines: two single-vineyard Chardonnays, two red blends, and one Cabernet Sauvignon. Each wine is artfully packaged in a gorgeous three-pack box that looks like a vintage fairytale book with artful imagery and classic, deep hues. Whether lying down on a coffee table or standing upright on a box case, these boxes were designed so that the bottle remains horizontal and the wine keeps the cork saturated for longevity. Seeing these in person, we have to say, the design is genius! Unlike anything we've ever seen!
From the Broken Road Vineyard. Aged 18 months in large oak puncheons, 50% of which are new. 74 cases produced. "A bright straw/green hue and opens with a bright nose of lime blossom, toast, candied green apple, and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, it's elegant all the way through, with lovely, refined balance and a hint of orange creamsicle. This is going to have some real longevity, with a wide drinking window over the next 10–12 years." 96 pts. — Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck.
