New wines find their way to us, whether by word of mouth, a chance encounter, or a determined and persistent hunt. Whatever the circumstances, we get a familiar feeling when we discover a new wine with the "it" factor. We knew it immediately when we tasted the debut vintage from NESTWEAVER, a boutique brand from industry vets Caren & Fritz Hatton of Arietta. Our clients responded with great enthusiasm to the 2021, and the wine quickly became our best-selling Pinot Noir in all of 2024!

Caren and Fritz are names that are just about synonymous with Napa Valley. Their brand, Arietta, is a legendary label that helped to define Napa Cabernet as it entered the world stage and continues to be coveted by collectors near and far. Over the many decades that the brand grew in recognition and demand, Caren quietly kept her eye on a long-term goal of one day making a Pinot Noir. It seemed like a farfetched idea that would always remain just out of reach, but as things tend to happen in our industry, the perfect vineyard presented itself, and Nestweaver was created shortly after.

The fruit for this boutique brand is sourced from the Corpuel Family Vineyard, a 7.6-acre plot dedicated to three premium clones of Pinot Noir: Pommard, Vosne-Romannee, and Swan. Just a few miles from the famed Littorai Estate and planted by the vineyard whisperer Ulises Valdez in 2016, this rustic vineyard is remote and ideally suited to develop the old-world qualities Caren idealizes in Pinot Noir.

The sophomore vintage of Nestweaver is a translucent ruby red with a delicate structure and very enticing aromatics. On the nose, you'll find wild cherry, raspberry, blood orange, rose petals, and mushrooms. 30% new French oak and 9 months of elevage set the stage for a soft, expansive palate framed by a lovely dose of acidity. Even with the forwardness of the fruit, there is a purity and focus through the mid-palate that integrates seamlessly with a persistent finish. Though enjoyable now, it is clear the wine will continue to evolve over the years in bottle.
