Roubaix Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford 2021

A serendipitous trip to France and a bike ride up Mt. Ventoux brought four new friends together from opposite coasts. Brian & Renee Lewis from Saint Helena, and Carlos & Meredith Wolf from Miami, who share a passion for wine, food, and cycling, eventually purchased a small property in Rutherford. They built a house, planted a half-acre vineyard, and created a small boutique wine.  The couples enlisted winemaker Keith Hock, formerly of Rudd Estates and Schramsberg, to handcraft their tiny venture. The wine is called Roubaix (pronounced roo-bay) after the famous bike race from Paris to the village of Roubaix in France. 2014 was the first vintage, but with only 50 cases produced, most of the wine went to family and friends. We have known about this project long before that first vintage was even bottled, and we are so excited to be able to share the 2019 vintage of Roubaix with you!

The couples behind Roubaix chose Rutherford to establish their estate, as the region's characteristics matched their preferences stylistically. Those beloved traits were the aromatically ripe and predominant fruit profile with finely-grained tannins, quintessential Rutherford. Located centrally at the broadest part of Napa Valley, the grapes benefit from many days of sunlight and small amounts of respite from the afternoon sun under the shadows of Mayacamas. While the constant sunshine develops those robust aromas, the deep gravelly soils aid in evolving the "dusty" tannins synonymous with the area. 

Winemaker Notes: The 2021 Roubaix Cabernet Sauvignon highlights the quality of the 2021 vintage, with an elegant structure and balanced acidity. The palate is rich and complex with fine tannins, flavors of  blackberry, cherry and raspberry, are present followed by delicate nuances of the integrated French oak. The palate is completed by flavors of baking spices, white truffle, and dark chocolate. 

Roubaix produces fewer than 100 cases each vintage of this delectable wine.
