Few estates are as revered as the Eisele Vineyard just south of Calistoga, first founded by Bart and Daphne Araujo in 1990. During their 23 year legacy, they crafted an Eisele Vineyard Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah which quickly became one of the most coveted wines in the Napa Valley, so much so, that in 2013, Araujo Estate was acquired by the Pinault family, owners of Chateau Latour in Bordeaux. At that time, forty vintages had already carried the Eisele Vineyard designation and one constant remained: the Eisele Vineyard itself. In wine, there is nothing so immutable as the land. Vintages offer variation, as do winemakers and proprietors. Mother Nature is reliably capricious, always wanting the last word. But the land is a constant, its geology and composition immovable. The wines of Eisele Estate are some of the oldest and finest from Napa Valley, garnering high scores and landing in the mix of Napa Valley’s Cult Wines by no mistake. Araujo (Eisele) Estate, Colgin, Dalla Valle, Grace Family, Harlan Estate, Schrader and Screaming Eagle were the original cult wines from the mid-90’s and to this day, all have scored 100 points from wine critics and will continue to be the wines with the cult status, quality levels and the most difficult to obtain.
With perfect growing conditions from bud break to harvest, the 2021 Eisele Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is exceptional! A blend of two Sauvignon Blanc clones: Sauvignon Musque (75%) with its slightly exotic flavors, and Sauvignon Blanc (25%) with a lean, gravely structure, produces a wine of great pleasure that reminds us of the long warm summers and the dry cobbly soils of Eisele Vineyard. Grown on the eastern side of the property, the Sauvignon Blanc ripens slowly and evenly thanks to natural protection from the afternoon sun provided by the hills to the south and east, preserving the freshness and energy of this wine. Extended elevage on the lees in a mix of stainless steel, concrete egg, and 30% new French oak barrels results in added tension and aromatic complexity to this unique wine.
