Robert Lloyd has more than two decades of winemaking experience working at a handful of California’s most well-known chardonnay and pinot noir producers. He first cut his teeth working both in the cellar and in the tasting room at Cakebread, before moving over to Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars and then finally earning his Masters of Enology at UC-Davis in 1999. Following graduation, he accepted the esteemed winemaker position at La Crema before leaving for Rombauer in 2001. At Rombauer, he worked his way up from Assistant to Head Winemaker before leaving in 2008 to embark on his own winemaking journey under a private label….Lloyd Cellars. Since day one, ACME has been sharing Rob's wines with folks who prefer his indulgent style of Chardonnay, which he makes with fruit from the Sangiacomo Vineyard in Carneros and blended with a small amount from the Truchard Vineyard! Robert barrel-ferments his wines and ages them on the lees for 10 months in new American oak. The result is a wine that is rich, toasty, and luxurious. California sunshine in a glass. If you love opulent and toasty chardonnays, but wish to try something made in smaller quantities, Lloyd is an ideal choice! Layers of tropical fruits, ripe pear and candied apple are supported by rich notes of vanilla bean that lead into a powerful and succulent finish. Pale yellow with a green tinge to the hue. Aromas of yellow peach, mango with a slight citrus note intertwine seamlessly. The palate is rich and round, while the creamy texture and toasty notes of freshly baked brioche merge effortlessly. The balanced acidity closes out the finish bringing the multiple components into balance.
