Pierre Girardin Échezeaux Grand Cru Côte de Nuits Burgundy 2020

Pierre’s 2020 Grand Cru Échezeaux is 100% Pinot Noir and sourced from two lieux-dits:  “Les Treux” and “Les Poulaillères”.  Les Poulaillères lies just north of Echézeaux du Dessus, also known as “the heart” of the Grand Cru, with the majority owner of the 13 acres being Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.  Les Treux shares a northern border with Grands-Echezeaux and the vines are over 60 years old. A mere 10% of this wine is pressed before fermentation, and the balance is fermented as whole clusters using indigenous yeast.  Once fully dry, the wine was racked into 50% new and 50% neutral oak barrels and aged for 16 months before transferring to stainless steel for the final three months.  Revealing aromas of cassis, cooked cherry, wild berry, and spices followed by a profoundly layered palate of mushroom, toasted hazelnut, and vanilla.  The focused concentration persists through the long finish.
