This wine is extraordinary, timeless, and one-of-a-kind! One of the many unique attributes of fine wine is that it’s literally time in a bottle. Arguably few wines exhibit this trait more so than champagne. In 2010, divers recovered 79 bottles of champagne from a 200-year-old shipwreck in the icy waters of the Baltic Sea. Not only were they still good, they were exquisite. This rare and sumptuous bottling from the venerable champagne house of Forget-Chemin encapsulates portions of vintages from an entire generation of winemaking: the 25 years spanning 1991-2015. In short, if you’re looking for a special bottle, something exceptional for the wine lover who has everything; this is your bottle.
Forget-Chemin is a small family-owned grower-producer located in the quaint village of Ludes-le-Coquet, within sight of the medieval cathedral of Reims. Thierry Forget is the fourth-generation winemaker and steward of just twenty-four acres of sustainably farmed vineyards on the slopes of the legendary Montagne de Reims. He meticulously cultivates Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier spread across ten different crus and sixty individual vineyard blocks. All of his precious grape clusters are harvested by hand in the vineyard and Thierry himself riddles each bottle as it ages in his ancient limestone caves. Of the limited number of bottles produced by the House of Forget-Chemin, fewer than 5% are exported out of France, and the Réserve Perpétuelle comprises a tiny fraction of this allotment.
Thierry crafts this unique assemblage from only the very best reserve wines that span his entire career as a winemaker. Tiny, fine bubbles converge from the base of the glass, erupting to the surface to the delight of the eye. Aromas of peach melba and caramelized apple galette entice on the nose, leading to a rich and creamy palate punctuated by a seam of racy acidity. This extremely rare and gorgeous wine miraculously sums up twenty-five growing seasons in Champagne- it is sunlight, held together by water.
