Winemaker Fabrice Bouard and his wife Carinne Bonnefoy sustainably farm just twenty acres of coveted vines in Chassagne-Montrachet that have been in her family for four generations. Fabrice’s first career was as a bodyguard for French dignitaries, and he is equally protective of the quality of the fruit he cultivates. Upon arrival to their cellar, the Chardonnay grapes are gently crushed and then lightly pressed in a time-worn upright wooden press inherited from Claire’s grandparents. For all their white wines, native yeast kicks off the juice’s fermentation in a mixture of older barrels and 20% new wood for a perfect balance with each vintage.

Domaine Bouard-Bonnefoy’s ‘Le Charmois’ is one of Chassagne’s top Premier Cru vineyards, climbing up a hillside and just a stone’s throw from Montrachet. Aromas of green apple, white peach, and crushed stones marry beautifully with mineral energy and a backbone of acidity. ‘Charmois’ is the source of vibrant and tantalizing wine — with all the flavorful depth and elegance one expects from the best of Chassagne.
