Russell Bevan needs no introduction. His accolades speak so loudly that his wines, when available, fly off the shelf and into collectors’ and passionate fans’ homes. Even if one hasn’t tasted his wines yet, the consistent 98–100-point scores confirm that they are superb choices and, are often utter perfection. Today, we proudly invite you to become familiar with three distinct beauties of Russell’s transcendent 2018 wines. Two are from Oakville’s Tench Vineyard, where Russell is a partner. As you may be able to interpret from the locale, it is a high-rent district with the vines located in between Screaming Eagle and Rudd - Dalla Valle, BOND St. Eden, and Backus vineyards are all within toasting distance. It doesn’t get much better than this with Russell Bevan’s talents and the grapes that have been nurtured to exceptional precision. This beautiful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc is from the Tench Vineyard on the east side of Oakville, aka Paradise. Balancing opulence and hedonism with finesse isn’t an easy task, but Russell is king of this game. Winemaker TASTING NOTES: The Cabernet Sauvignon in this blend comes from Block 2A at the Tench Vineyard, which is all red dirt. This soil profile gives us more blue fruits then black, but the tannins are also a little gentler, which we balance by blending in Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Franc has massive tannins. That addition adds concentration and structure, pulling the wine back on the palate for a mouthwatering finish. There is no doubt the concentration we achieved blending the EE in 2019 is phenomenal.
