No one can argue that the Mondavi legacy is an impressive one and because of the path this celebrated family paved all those years ago, the Napa Valley was changed forever. The modern-day history began in 1943 when Cesare and Rosa Mondavi purchased the winery and although Cesare was the first to bring wine to the table, it was the passion for excellence from both of his sons, Robert and Peter, which inspired the family and the rest of the world. Robert Mondavi established his namesake winery in 1966 with a vision to create Napa Valley wines that would stand in the company of the world’s finest. He chose the To Kalon Vineyard in the heart of the Napa Valley as the home for Robert Mondavi Winery. This first-growth vineyard, located in the heart of Oakville, California, is renowned for producing some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon wines in the world, as well as for its Sauvignon Blanc grapes, from which Mr. Mondavi crafted his signature wine, Fumé Blanc. Fast forward nearly 50 years to a new generation of inspired Mondavi family winemakers, Phil Holbrook, the grandson of the late Margrit Mondavi, showed the same Mondavi family passion as he and his business partner, Wil Prim, along with their wives, Danni and Lauren, launched their own Napa Valley wine brand called REVIK in 2015! Everything about this tiny project exclaims perfection. From the stirring passion, to the gorgeous wine inside the bottles, the labels, the dedication and the winemaking precision, we are in love with this project! For Phil, a Napa Valley native and with winemaking clearly in his blood, he was exposed to distinct and beautiful experiences from very early on: he worked harvest at Arnot-Roberts, alongside one of his cousins, Nathan Roberts, making cool climate Cabernet Sauvignon, Trousseau and Syrah. He worked another harvest at RAEN, owned by Carlo and Dante Mondavi, whose far west Sonoma Coast Pinot Noirs are graceful and supple. He also gained experience and learned valuable lessons at the powerhouse mainstay Robert Mondavi Winery under the talented Joe Harden before landing a position at Nickel & Nickel. Wil grew up on Howell Mountain helping out in all aspects of his family’s wine brand, Prim Vineyards. Presently, Wil and Lauren live up on the hill continuing a life filled with the joys of winegrowing. The name Revik is a combination of two words, Revel: to celebrate, dance & drink with friends and Vik: time and place. The conjunction of these two words couldn't be more perfect. The wines are not only a reflection of their site, but a celebration of the place they are derived from, time of harvest and the moment it is opened. The wine in this bottle is as beautifully composed as the label wrapped around, and speaks to a level of care and knowledge of the vineyards that can only come from those who were raised amongst them. The labels are inspired by Margrit Mondavi’s handmade water color menus she would craft for all of her special occasion gatherings and Phil was honored to be able to use this one in particular on the label of their Revik Sauvignon Blanc, an honor that is near and dear to not only his heart but to this valley’s rich history. From Phil’s parents’ home vineyard in Coombsville, the coolest appelation in the Napa Valley, the first word that comes to mind is “WOW!” Mouthwatering grip and shimmering with fresh acidity, this is so refreshingly gorgeous. Briny, floral and bright as a light, this is a far cry from the norm of high alcohol, high octane Napa Valley SBs. No, this is for purists who love lean and nimble whites. Barrel aged for 12 months Sur Lie. 13.9% ABV. Only 75 cases made (That is 3 barrels!).
