Silver Ghost Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2019

If there is one thing that Napa is known for, it’s expensive Cabernet. So when ACME heard about a project that was boasting a $40 bottle of Cabernet, we made sure that we were among the first to get our hands on it. Since our initial opportunity to introduce Silver Ghost’s 2012 vintage to our Under the Radar club members back in 2015, this wine has repeatedly flown off of our shelves with every consecutive vintage. Despite its almost immediate success, vintner Weston Eidson continues to source grapes from some of the most sought-after vineyards in the Napa Valley while also holding firm to a shockingly low price. This duality is both refreshing and telling – Weston clearly appreciates high-quality wine just as much as he appreciates those who seek it. 

Vintner Weston Eidson's great-grandfather was British Lord and Parliament member, John Montagu. A car enthusiast, he was also instrumental in much of the early automotive legislation and was friends with Charles Rolls and Henry Royce. His secretary was a model for the Rolls-Royce hood ornament, the Spirit of Ecstasy, which we still see on Rolls-Royce cars today. He also helped launch the 1909 Silver Ghost Rolls Royce, his favorite car. Flash forward to today, and Weston has created a wine in honor of his great-grandfather, and thus we have this striking Cabernet.

The 2019 vintage is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, all of which have been sourced from some of the finest vineyards within Yountville, Rutherford, and Calistoga. The wine boasts a deep, luxe shade of ruby red with leading aromas of black cherry, blueberry, and cassis. The palate is juicy and voluptuous in texture with layers of spiced blackberry intermingled with chocolate, toast, and savory spice. A long, supple finish confirms what we already knew – this wine absolutely over-delivers!
