Saget la Perrière Blanc Fumé de Pouilly Loire 2018

Pouilly-Fumé , often imitated and made most famous by Loire royalty, Didier Dagueneau, is a dry Sauvignon Blanc from Pouilly sur Loire that draws all of its characteristics from the legendary terroir on the banks of the Loire River. It is one of the Loire Valley's most revered wines, rivaled only by the neighboring wines from Sancerre. The Pouilly-Fumé name is composed of two parts. 'Pouilly' is short for Pouilly-sur-Loire, the village the wines come from. Fumé is short for Blanc Fumé, which is the local nickname for Sauvignon Blanc. Fumé is French for 'smoky' and denotes the gunflint aroma that characterizes the local Sauvignon Blanc wines. This distinctive smell is often referred to as ‘pierre à fusil’ which means 'flint' (the literal translation is 'rifle stone'). It is a key point of differentiation for Pouilly-Fumé's winemakers, and a source of great local pride. The soils in this region are key to the standout wines it produces. Limestone and flint are the most important components. Both have excellent heat-retention and light-reflecting properties and help the vines to achieve optimal ripeness in the cool growing season here. The Pouilly-Fumé from Saget la Perrière is a classic expression of the region. Crisp and green with floral notes of honeysuckle and jasmine are swept into harmony with a resounding amount of acidity that will have your mouth watering after one sip. This wine is begging for a day out on the coast paired with oysters and would evolve gracefully as it warms slightly on your picnic table. This is your summertime wine!
