The wines meticulously made and carefully tucked behind these stunning Scarlett labels are a perennial favorite here at ACME, made by one of Napa’s most adored winemakers, Mike Smith. Vintage after vintage, Mike Smith’s wines are some of our most requested wines we procure throughout the year. Every release sells out almost immediately, resulting in a wait list of clients pining for a bottle or two more. After working seven years alongside Thomas Rivers Brown, Smith now makes some of Napa’s most sought after wines including Carter Cellars, Myriad, Becklyn, and Ancillary. Scarlett Wines is a family operation owned by the McGah family who are most notably known for co-founding the Oakland Raiders. Representing over four generations of winegrowers, the family’s personal touch is evident from vineyard to bottle.

The picturesque McGah family vineyard estates are nestled just north of Oakville in Rutherford bordering the Silverado Trail, in an area known as the eastern Rutherford Bench which is prized for its unique terroir. The winery operated under the name ‘McGah Family Cellars’ until 2015 when they rebranded the family business in honor of its flagship wine, Scarlett, which was named after the founder’s daughter. Another charismatic bottling here at ACME that is so easy to love and drink over and over again. This deep ruby Zinfandel elicits excitement from the get-go. Coming from the McGah’s Heritage Vineyard in Rutherford, the 2018 is predominantly Zinfandel with a touch of Petite Sirah. Brambly, black fruit and raspberry liquor with a touch of citrus on the nose is followed by spectacular blackberry, prunes, and cloves that fill the palate. Medium-bodied and well balanced with perfect acidity and lots of energy. A classic touch of cola and dark chocolate linger in the background. Full and plush, the finish is big, long, and dynamic. Enjoy with a nice decant or lay it down for a couple of years to let all the elements come together. This handcrafted beauty shows off until the very end with a layered finish that effortlessly carries on for hours. Aged for 18 months in 25% new French oak. Only 174 cases produced.
