Amici Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2021

Yesterday, Karen and I drove the bucolic and verdant road up to Amici Cellars in Calistoga to reconnect with our friends and taste an incredible line-up of wines. Amici means "friends" in Italian, and the team truly embodies this spirit. We were welcomed by everyone on the team seconds after stepping out of the car, and we spent hours sitting, eating, and tasting without realizing that a minute had passed. The wine industry really does attract the most hospitable and creative people...boy are we blessed! 

Their wines are made by the gregarious Tony Biagi, a long-time friend of ACME. The wines were outrageously delicious (as expected), and Melissa, their President, joked about how their extensive portfolio continues to grow because Tony can't help himself when an opportunity to make a new single-vineyard Cabernet is presented. Comparatively, their single-vineyard Cabs are very reasonably priced. But the hidden gem of the bunch, for us, was and continues to be their $50 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. This pricepoint is almost archaic here, but Tony and the Amici team are fully committed to keeping this wine available, and we are thrilled to share it with you today!

An unbelievable $50 Napa Cab doesn't cross our desk often. Despite the rarity, we are ALWAYS on the hunt for this price point/quality duo. Amici is one of the few wineries that is perfectly primed to deliver a gem such as this. Their Cabernet line-up features a whopping 9 single-vineyard wines, and with this broad access valley-wide, it is easy and relatively cost-effective for Tony to take a little off the top here and there to deliver this SHOW-STOPPING $50 Cabernet. 

82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot from the Hudson, Van Winden, Rafael, and Traina Vineyards. Aged in 65% new French oak, this wine offers dense aromas of dark cherry, plum, cocoa, and creme de cassis. As is true with all of Tony's wines, the tannins are masterfully integrated, making the body voluminous and smooth. Just what you'd want from a Cabernet meant to be enjoyed young.
